OUR PLAN
We Citizens who use The Marlton Circle oppose NJDOT's Overpass Plan and support an “INTELLIGENT INTERSECTION with SMART LIGHTS” (see below).
Our plan involves a much less expensive and much shorter construction period while calling attention to the fact that NJDOT’s overpass plan will not reduce congestion within or beyond a one mile radius of the location where Routes 70 and 73 intersect.
Our quick, simple, inexpensive and logical plan has a few important key elements:
· “Smart Lights” (Actuated Lights) to sense real-time traffic volume to maximize the flow of traffic in each direction so it may quickly go straight, turn left or make a U-Turn.
· “Right turn on red” that branch prior to the intersection allow 2 lanes to be used for traffic going straight and 2 lanes to turn left, moving a greater volume of traffic thru with each green light.
· U-Turns to be made from the far left lane (along with the traffic turning left) to avoid the serious congestion problems our community already experiences with jughandles at 73/Brick and 73/Evesham.
· Long vehicles (such as semi-trucks and buses) to be prohibited from making U-Turns at the “Intelligent Intersection”.
Many drivers are not well-suited to complex road configurations. We will all drive much more quickly, directly, simply and safely with an "Intelligent Intersection".
“Smart Lights” (Actuated Lights that electronically sense traffic volume) significantly minimize the problem of traffic backing up that is turning left. Traditional (“half-smart”) traffic lights contribute to congestion in the left-turn lane because they only allow a short time for left turns before all facing lanes have a green light.
